Tagline: A trip down the memory lane into the garden of eternal beauty.
Eternal Garden is an experimental visual music piece where viewers are taken on a journey through a surreal world made from fabric patterns. As the garden unfolds, viewers get the chance to immerse themselves in the mesmerising audio-visual space, while experiencing the cultural and artistic values of Vietnamese traditional textile. This animation also acts as a form of escapism for viewers during the distressing period of the pandemic, encouraging them to find the small but precious joy in everyday life.
What is one’s heritage from the women in their family? It can be the wedding ring of grandpa that grandma used to put in the drawer next to her bed. It can be the lullaby mom used to sing you to sleep, or the secret recipes she created from love and experience in the kitchen. In Vy’s case, it is grandma’s closet of áo dài and áo bà ba that has always brought her amazement in her childhood, as well as immense inspiration and nostalgia nowadays.
Vy’s childhood summers were usually spent at her grandparents’ place, where she helped grandma with her tailor tasks. The fabric shelves were Vy’s favourite place – piles of fabric ranging in colours, materials and patterns. Made with vibrant palettes and sophisticated techniques, each piece was unique, yet created a harmonious scene when put together. These textile artworks have stood the test of time, helping beautify Vietnamese women through generations.
As if, it was a garden with flowers nurtured by creativity and craftsmanship. A fairytale wonderland to a child’s mind. A heritage that is hoped to last forever.
